Not dead.
January has been a busy one.
I'm applying for more jobs, teaching a new class, prepping a syllabus for another new class next term, going to Important Departmental Lectures and trying desperately to finish a (truly rough) draft of Chapter Four by the end of the month.
I've also submitted an article for publication and sent in an abstract for next year's Conference of Doom.
Oh, and the Wife and I joined a gym and have been working out regularly for the past four weeks.
So, my apologies for being extremely lax with my updates. All is well, rest assured. I am simply feeling the stress of a competitive job market and am trying my best to respond to its demands.
Still, I shall endeavor to make more time for writing here. It is a welcome break, as ever.

I am at The Conference of Doom!
Christ is this conference big. I mean, Jesus. It's huge. You can't swing a dead cat in this hotel without hitting at least three preeminent classicists.
Which is lovely. And draining. I find I'm always on the lookout for people I know and haven't seen in years and would love to talk to. Or people I know and haven't seen in years and would prefer to keep that way. So it goes.
But tonight was great. I caught up with old friends, talked with professors from college and generally had a grand time. And getting tipped off about delicious dinner in Chinatown certainly didn't hurt, either.
With no interviews and no paper to give, it's apparently rather easy to enjoy a conference. Who knew?
